Wedding anniversaries are very special occasions, and indeed they should be since anniversaries of this kind brings back a lot of memories. It is also a time to maybe retake those vows or just relect on how well you have been keeping them. Irregardless of how you look at it you still need to get a gift for your spouse and you are expected to get a meaningful gift as well.

In almost every country and in every culture there is a celebration attached to couples achieving specific milestones in their marriage. Naturally this is measured in years and each year has a special stone or material associated with it. For instance 25 years of marriage is regarded as the Silver Wedding anniversary after a story emanating out of Middle Europe. Also 50 years is known as the Golden Wedding anniversary, where this came from is anyone's guess.

In 1897 when Queen Victoria celebrated her 60th anniversary since becoming Queen this date has been celebrated as a Diamond anniversary. Prior to this time it was traditional for the 75th year of marriage to be celebrated as a Diamond Wedding anniversary, so it's not uncommon that today both these dates, 60 and 75 are celebrated as Diamond wedding anniversaries. For the few devoted lovers who make it to 100 years of marriage no name has been ascribed to that celebration as yet probably because no one has yet qualified.

Naturally in modern times each year that a couple stays together in wedded bliss, it is considered such a momentous feat that it seems diamond anniversary and golden anniversary celebrations are brought foward when it comes to gift giving. While many people still flow along the traditional lines of wedding anniversaries, modern gift ideas have been taking a step forward.

Precious stones and gems are still highly regarded as anniversary gifts, only in recent times gems do not necessarily come in the form of jewelry, but rather can be impressed on oak jewelry boxes or frames of family portraits. However, rest assured antique clocks, watches and Chinaware are still wonderful anniversary gifts.

And last but not least, nothing can be more precious than taking memories of olden times and making them into visual reminders. Scrap books, collages and quilts made wonderful anniversary gifts, especially when creativity and spirit are incorporated into your gift idea.
