Bathing in a bathtub after a tiring day at work is not just a great way to clean yourself but also relaxes you completely. However, your bath may not end up being that relaxing after all if you do not have the right bathtub. As tubs come in several different styles and kinds, you need to ensure that you choose one that is in keeping with what you want so that you can enjoy your tub thoroughly. To help you in choosing the right bathtub, we have listed down the following criteria that need to be thought over when looking at various bathtubs to buy.

1) Functionality: A bathtub is essentially used for bathing, so what functionality are we talking about? Well, although bathtubs are used only for bathing, there are many features that add to the functionality of one. For instance, a whirlpool tub also provides a soothing and relaxing jet massage option in addition to regular bathing. Thus, you need to make sure that you will actually use the jets often and are not simply buying the tub because it has the added features. So, be clear on what your needs are and then pick a bath tub that fulfills them.

2) Size of the bathtub: Choosing a tub that is too small for you will mean that you cannot fit into it and will not be able to utilize it completely. On the other hand, picking one that is way too big will mean that you are increasing your water usage unnecessarily. So you see, it is essential that you buy a bathtub that is the right size for you, neither way too large nor way too small.

When you are considering the size of the tub, also determine whether you want a one person tub or two person tub. Some people buy a large tub thinking that the added room will allow for two people to bathe at the same time. However, that is not how it works. If you want to share your bath time with another person, go for a two person tub and not a large one person tub.

3) Shades and designs: While not important to the function of the bathtub, the right color and style of the tub will make your bathroom look that much more inviting. Bathtubs are available in the standard colors of cream and white, but you can also get different colors such as blue, brown, maroon, green, and pink so as to match your dcor. Shapes in bathtubs include the standard rectangle, as well as others such as heart shaped, oval, round, corner style etc.

4) Bathtub material: Not all tubs are made from the same material. Some are made of wood, some marble, some cast iron, whereas others are made of acrylic, porcelain and even fiberglass. The material of the tub is what eventually determines how long lasting the tub will be, how strong it will be, how much it will cost, and how easy or difficult it will be to keep the tub clean. For instance, fiberglass tubs are great if you are looking for a cheaply priced bathtub, but these may not last you for years on end. As far as durability is concerned, cast iron tubs are a great buy but they can set you back by a pretty penny. Thus, you need to look at the pros and cons of different construction materials for bathtubs and then pick one depending on what you want most from your tub durability, attractiveness, ease of maintenance, strength, or cost effectiveness.

5) Regular tubs or therapeutic: A bathtub is not just used for bathing but can also have immense therapeutic value. By filling a tub with hot water and soaking your entire body in it, you can lower high blood pressure, relieve stress, and get rid of muscular aches and pains. However, you need to ensure that your entire body is immersed in the tub and not just a portion of it. To do that, it is necessary to buy a soaking bathtub instead of a standard one as they are much deeper. Thus, depending on whether or not you want your tub to be therapeutic, you need to decide between a standard bathtub and a soaking one.

6) Special Requirements: Contrary to what most people believe, even aged people and handicapped persons can enjoy a bathtub. Yes, a regular bathtub may be too dangerous for them, but ADA compliant bathtubs can certainly be used by people with special needs. ADA bathtubs are made in a manner that old and handicapped people can easily enter and exit the tub. Increased protection is provided by grab bars and grab rails so that there is little danger of slipping and falling. Even people who are on wheelchairs can use specially designed ADA tubs.

Thus, you should choose a bathtub only after taking all the above factors into consideration. Your budget will also determine your choice of tub, but there are bathtubs available in all different price ranges so finding one within your budget should not be a problem.

Hopefully, this guide will help you to choose a bathtub that is right for you and your family.
